While this may sound like what a vampire calls a broken-down bus in front of their house (aka a buffet), this diet is somehow more dangerous than that.
Simplified, this diet plan has practitioners skip breakfast (except black coffee and a multivitamin) then anything to eat for lunch and dinner, with 2 snack breaks between. Sounds great, right? Well, unfortunately you can eat anything you want during those meals…as long as you only eat 5 bites.
Yes, you read that right. 5 average size bites twice a day and nothing else.
For the price of eating anything you want except breakfast or a full meal, you are promised an average of 15 pounds a week. In fact, possibly making this more frustrating, this diet was created by an actual doctor who talked about the hamster-size feast diet on different television shows. In selling it and the associated book, Dr. Alvin Lewis described it as eating like you’ve recently had gastric bypass surgery without the inconvenience of having surgery.
While relatively recent, enough time has accrued for this diet to be studied and found to be great for fast weight loss (even too fast) but could only account for half of the calories needed for the average adult, with an increase of digestive issues, gallstones, and a likelihood of developing an eating disorder. Even the diet’s founder has said this diet isn’t safe beyond an initial period when the desired weight is reached, although many experts advise against even trying this diet.
